Stay at your home for VIP culinary service

Most of your daily routine would be going to market to buy groceries every morning, cooking food for lunch and dinner, then repeat again for tomorrow, right?
So, what would you do when you are getting bored with the routine, or maybe you are too tired to cook?
You will try something new, you will go eat outside, have some dinner at some fancy restaurant or cafe, or trying the new local restaurant, or maybe just ordering pizza or Mcd or KFC to your house, won’t you?

Well, if you are in Indonesia, you don’t need to order food to be delivered BECAUSE the food will come right to your house.
Just wait in your living room and keep your ears open. Sooner or later, a sound like “tac tac tac” can be heard.
Satay, noodle, fried rice, kebab, burger, rujak (fruit salad), siomay (dumplings), batagor (fried tofu and meatball), pempekand even coffee so you don’t need to go to Starbucks.
All of them will come passing your house, and all you need to do is to call them by clapping your hands.

Furthermore, you can also see them cooking in front of you. A very VIP service, isn’t it?
One thing you must remember, though, is that you have to use your own cutlery. You must not use their plate, spoon, fork, chopsticks, or knife at all.
Why? Because they only use 1 bucket of water to clean all their cutleries over and over, so you can imagine the diseases like diarrhea, hepatitis, and others can happen any time.

Also, you need to have a stomach medicine because there is a big chance that you will not get used to Indonesian food easily.
(I suggest ‘Norit’ because my foreign friend got his stomachache cured quickly with it)

“Finger Lickin’ Good”, not a mere KFC’s slogan in Indonesia

Who doesn’t know the KFC’s tasty slogan “Finger Lickin’ Good”? They utilize the ease and practicality of eating the fried chickens with hands rather than with a spoon and fork.
They needed to spread this slogan because people have always used spoon, fork, knife, or chopsticks to eat, and it is not easy to eat fried chickens with those things, right?

(Here’s one of the ads)

Well, in Indonesia, there’s no need to spread this kind of slogan because everybody is already doing it.
Most of Indonesian people have always eaten with their hands. Eating rice, noodle, fried chicken, salad, and any kind of food you can think of with their hands.
But, of course, they eat soup with spoon. If you are trying to fit in, just be sure to use your right hand to eat, even if you are left-handed.  Check this post to know why if you haven’t read it.

(See this video too to see it in motion)

But of course, you should not eat with your hands if you are working in the office. Indonesia’s food is full of spices and seasoning, so it will leave a smell in your hands or your nails.

Noodle, No.1 rice replacement in Indonesia

Compared to American and European countries who are most comfortable with not eating rice and prefer bread, the Indonesian people are very fond with rice. Daily foods, whatever the side dishes are, are incomplete without rice as the main dish. Fried rice or Nasi Goreng (often abbreviated as nas-gor) is the most famous dish that can be made from rice.

So, what happens if there is no rice on the table? The famous replacement was actually a potato. Not fried potato or french fries like what you buy from McD or KFC, but ordinary potatoes. BUT surprisingly, that habit has changed. The most famous replacement is now noodles. It is very popular and well-received by all kinds of people. It comes in many variations of flavors, size, and conveniences. There’s the normal size, big size (1,5 times of the normal size), and there’s noodle that comes with a cup.

Then, there is the most popular noodles, Mi Goreng rendang for the normal size and the Indomie Mi Goreng instant cup noodles for the cup size. Explaining foods by words seems tedious and unnecessary, so see the pictures below.

And here’s the one for the cup size.

Easy, practical, quick, and delicious are everything you get from it. No wonder that the noodles are very famous in Indonesia. Ever thought about investing in one of the companies?
